It's official: Oxblood is this season’s must have colour. If you’re not confident enough to splurge out a statement piece in this seductive colour, perhaps sporting on your nails could be the next biggest thing? The muddied burgundy works as a statement accessory or as a staple fashion piece. This rather morbid colour will look fabulously crisp against London's cold grey weather or in a deep velvety fabric for a night out.

Orange is proving to be quite a popular colour this year, it being part of the title of Frank Oceans debut Album. So I thought I'd channel this fabulous colour on to my nails for a bright summery look... in winter. My nail polish of choice being Look Beauty's Fluoro which I picked up with two others during Superdrug's 3 for 2 offer, otherwise know and a blessing from God.

This bright fluorescent deep orange compliment most skin tones, however it looks especially beautiful on really pale tones for a classy crisp look or on deeper tones for a warm summery glow. This sleek rich colour is perfect for making a statement with your outfit, whether you use it to brighten up a drab grey work outfit or contrast it against it a brightly coloured top.

I have nothing but adoration for Look Beauty perfection of the nail polish formula. They have the perfect balance between thick, opaque yet spreadable. In two coats this polished dries quickly to a shiny glossy smooth finish. This nail polish looks especially good against silver accents, Andrea Fulerton Nail Tattoo Chains, as pictured above or maybe a gold leaf for an alternative vintage look.

R-L: Revlon Scene Stealer, Look Beauty Fluoro
The Look Beauty Packaging is super cute, original and retro. The brush is quite good for a mid-priced nail polish. It allows you the spread the polish with ease across the nail in three quick strokes. It doesn't leave horrible streaks, but that may be down to the formula.

I chose to a half and half chain feature nail with this look using the wonderful nail tattoos designed by Andrea Fulerton. Chains are a growing trend in the nail world, and I feel the silver accent perfectly complimented the sheer translucide polish, Revlon Scene Stealer.

Is this too orange?

On a bit of a mad one, this evening... and thought I'd share some pictures of these cute cupcakes I made at a Cupcake Truffle Workshop a couple of weeks ago. My college took me on the trip as a part of an introduction to CAS... IB privileges. As you can see I was extraordinarily creative using numerous colours of butter cream icing, spray paint and other sparkly bits and bobs. As they say Rome wasn't built in a day but I think I done an amazing job considering I had only just learnt how to use a piping bag. I think its safe to say cupcake decorating isn't my forte. They tasted amazing too.

Much to my approval the style of the underground skaters that the fashion world loves so much has reemerged as a strong tend for the Autumn/Winter 2012 Season. Dark greys, mauve burgundies and burnt oranges reflect the colours of the season so well and add to a crisp effortless look created by these amazing pieces. Grunge jumpers and skull print tee's add to the darkness of the season, while light feminine skater skirts balance off the look.

In my cartoonishly derived world nothing reminds me more of a parisian afternoon, than a pastel french stripped manicure. Pastel colours are so light and feminine, not to mention the fact that the easily blend into any season. The light dreamy colour's tend to compliment London's dreary grey skies and elongate what seems to be the  shortest nails on the planet! Without further a due (I've always wanted to say that) here's the tutorial.

Tutorial Time!

Step One - Remove Old Nail Polish

This ones a bit of no brainer, but nonetheless a clean nail surface is highly important, if you want you're manicure. (If your looking to skip the obvious skip to step 6)

Step Two - File Nail

File nails in one direction... one direction (see what i did there), filling in multiple directions causes the different layers of the nail to split causing peeling which leads to nail breakage. Also you may buff the nail, to increase the adhesiveness of the polish, just don't over do it... unless you want paper thin nails.

Step Three - Apply Nail Treatment

Nails, just like every other aspect of your body, need nourishment. A nail treatment from brands such as Revlon, Sally Hansen and Essie will help to make nails less brittle and strengthen them. Or if you want to add olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or a thick lotion to the nail to soften your cuticle.

Step 4 - Push Cuticle

Using a cuticle pusher or if your as ghetto/rachet as me an old bangle, push your cuticle back a little to give nail polish a neater appearance when applied.

Step 5 - Clean Nails

Once you've allowed the nail treatment to soak in, you'll need to remove the excess oils of the nails to allow for a clean dry surface for the nail polish to adhere to. Some people use nail polish remover to do this, I personally find this far to drying so I just use plain old water and a cloth to rub off as much as possible.

Step 6 - Base Coat

Apply a good base coat, at the time of this tutorial I was using Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Camelia, even though it was self leveling and gave my nail polish a great glossy surface. It stained my poor nails the ugliest shade of yellow, so it's important to buy an actual base coat that prevents nails from staining. I'm currently using GOSH Nail Hardener.

Step 7 - Base Colour

To get the parisian look, apply a two coats of a pastel nail polish to your nails, or you can chose any other colour you wish if you just want stripes. I am using Revlon Top Speed in Lily.

Step 8 - Stripes

Using a white striper polish, L.A Colours, carefully draw lines vertically down the nail. I find it easiest to draw a line down the middle then work my way out on either side.

Step 9 - Top Coat + Clean Up

Once the nail polish is dry use what is in my opinion the best top coat ever, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri and seal the design in. If your like me and mess your cuticles up with polish you can use a Q-tip and nail polish remover.

Tip: Wait till you have a shower, the warm water softens the cuticles and dead skin, meaning you can just rub off all the excess nail polish.

Enjoy your manicure!

Leave pictures in the comments to show me your results.

Several nail trends have come and gone, but none has been more impacting than the vintage blue trend. Its soft almost pastel like nature makes it stand out, regardless of what outfit you're wearing. Lucky for most it compliments all skin-tones, without make people look extra pale or extra dark. Last but not least, I think we all can admit we feel slightly more hipster whilst wearing it... is that so bad?

I feel like Look Beauty's attempt at this trend is by far one of my favorites, the established the perfect turquoise balance without leaning too much into the world of mint green. This blue perfectly suits darker skin-tones, which is rare to find and managed to grab the attention of loads of stranger who wanted to know what colour it was!

Look Beauty packaging is so chic and vintage looking, and most importantly big. The trendy container packs in a large 10ml. Personally, I think they are worth £5 as they as Look Beauty's Nail Pops are high quality on trend shades that dry flawlessly. My only complaint is that the gold paint on the nail polish caps seem to peel after a while, again I don't know if this has to to with the way I store them.

The formula of the polish itself is beautiful, thick constancy that applies onto the nail rather creamily and smoothly in just two coats. It dries fairly quickly to a high gloss and doesn't seem to chip easily, but that might be down to my base coast and chip coat.

I have been weirdly addicted to this beautiful song this week and I'm struggling to put my finger on exactly what it is that keeps me captivated.

Here it goes.

James Blake's sultry vocals take precedence on this track over a mellow synth backing. The chilling repetitive harmonies lace this track with such an addictive quality, which in my opinion make this track exceptionally different. The jazz harmonies and soulful voice sharply contrast his cold tone creating a haunting feel.

I've always admired James blake ability to transfer his vocals on to any style of track (Limit To Your Love) or even off a track (CMYK) and still manage to create an amazing sound. He meshes the worlds of a song-writer and electronic producer so well it seems almost effortless.

Sounds incredible right?

Has she been struck by a falling sattelite, drowned in a pool or starved to death! Although these are amusing ways to kill your sims, no ladies... mostly ladies, I have been missing in action. To summarise a series of my misfortunate events, my laptop broke and it took me ages to get it repaired. In addition to the fact I was preparing to go to college/sixth form. For those don't know me but would like to *wink wink*, I am a huge planner and my perplexed mind was completely focused on college clothes and stationery all of which is still a working progress.

Side-note: Is it weird that I'm more excited about stationery than clothes?

All calamity aside, I've got my laptop back and I should be posting more regularly... I promise. Depending on how much homework I get obviously, the words IB Student and spare time don't really come hand in hand. Needless to say, I have some really exciting things planed for this blog including a *drum roll*
Youtube Video. Once I figure out how to edit, don't hold your breath.

I've missed you guys so much.

Keep your eyes pealed, big things are coming for this blog.

Lots of love, kisses and hugs.

Two weeks ago I had my Record of Achievement Day and Prom, which was a whole lot of fun and glamour. I decided to keep my nails fairly simple and go with a coral to match the colour of my dress and a sparkly silver feature nail to match my shoes. I dabbled with the idea of getting acrylic but the thought of ruining my natural nails put me off completely, maybe I might try them out... one day.

Ignore the post exam exam bedroom mess in the background, my sister came back from university and lent me her guitar so I've been occupied with learning how to play it. In addition to practising Viola and Piano, I think I can actually become a one man band!

Back to the nail polish, Coral Flair has been on my wish list for a couple months now and when I discover it was half price in Superdrug I finally gave in and purchased it. It's a beautiful summery coral shade that in some lights looks like a barbie pink and goes perfect with all skin tones. Its so warm and girly and brightens up any outfit its paired with.

Accessorize - Coral Flair, Revlon Top Speed - Lily, L.A Colors Art Deco - Glittery Silver

The formula is really good not to thick not too thin, but the polish is really let down by the fat stubby brush that makes application a nightmare. I guess its alright for toes, but my poor pinky finger was literally slathered in polish once I'd finished. I'm glad I purchased it for half price, as in my personal opinion its absolutely tiny and doesn't seem like it will last long.

  1. Paint your chosen feature nail one coat of grey
  2. Paint over the grey with a highly pigmented silver glitter
  3. Apply a thick top

Chiffon is a beautiful light-weight sheer fabric that has made an amazing entrance into the everyday fashion industry. Th fabric that was usually reserved for evening dresses and lingerie has now added a touch of luxury to items such as shirts and skirts. It is available in every colour under the sun perfect for the summer and autumn as they can be layered up to accommodate colder climates *cough* Britain *cough*.

As promised, today I am reviewing the Body Shop’s Pink Grapefruit Lip Butter. I have been using this product for about two weeks and can say it is absolutely amazing. The condition of my lips has completely transformed, no exaggeration, from dry and ashy to soft and supple.

The formula is a very thick buttery one; however in warmer weather it softens and becomes less hard. When applied to your lips it instantly melts in and is so easily absorbed. Unlike most other lip balms and butter, this one contains no petroleum or miner oil meaning that this doesn’t just sit on top of your lips it fully moisturises your lips giving a slight sheen to them. The ingredient list makes me tear up its so beautiful, it contains wonderfully natural ingredients such as Shea Butter, Beeswax and Castor Oil.

Like all Body shop products the pink grapefruit scent is gorgeous. It smells so sweet, fruity and delicious enough to eat, I may have tasted it a couple of times just to make sure. Surprisingly, it does taste alright because I personally hate it when lip products taste awful... it ruins my whole mood. The packaging is so cute and small and fits comfortably into bags, purses and pockets.

On the Body Shop website it claims to offer ‘instant hydration’ and ‘leave lips soft and smooth’ which it actually does. It also last for about 6 hours before you need to top up, and even then I don’t really need to reapply I just like the scent.

Lucky for me I only purchased it for £1 after I used my £3 off voucher, but I would definitely repurchase this product as it is awesome and seems like it will last a long time as I have barley even made a dent in it.

This summer I have noticed this fearsome trend creeping back into high street shops and I love it. These bold daring prints make such loud statements whatever you wear them with. They can be styled with other prints or with basic block colour either way your look will be raging with attitude once you adorn your outfit with one of these beasts.

Once again, I over did it at Poundland when I discovered these cute little balms from New York Colour. I picked up the four colours, Sugar Kissed, Sugar Coated, Sugar Baby and Sugar Fairy. I love the packaging of these, its so compact and easy to drop into your pocket or bag when your in a rush.

L-R: Sugar Coated (509A), Sugar Kiss (510A), Sugar Fairy (513A), Sugar Baby (512A)
The name of these 'lip balms' is quite deceiving because they have the formula of a lip gloss. The lip glosses are thank fully not too sticky however it is best to avoid eating anything that produces crumbs when wearing them. Its quite thick and glooply meaning it will last about 4 hours on your lips before you'll need to reapply. They can be applied thinly for a sheer subtle look during the day time and applied more heavily in the evening for a bold glossy lip

L-R: Sugar Coated, Sugar Kiss, Sugar Fairy, Sugar Baby

The lip glosses are quite moisturising but its a safer bet to apply a lip balm underneath to give your lips a smother appearance.  Unlike most lip gloss/balms these have pretty good ingredients such as Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter.
